A Winning Formula
There’s a reason the Ford Escape has been around for so long while plenty of its rivals have come and gone. It isn’t because it’s the most exciting vehicle in the segment, and it isn’t trying to be. People buy Ford Escapes because they’re easy to live with, affordable to buy and run, and great to drive. The 2026 model sticks to that idea, but it adds something most alternatives still don’t offer—a full spread of petrol, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains in the same lineup. That choice matters more than styling or badge appeal when you’re using a vehicle every day.
Trim Levels
The 2026 Ford Escape lineup includes Active, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, ST-Line Elite, Platinum, and Plug-in Hybrid models. Active models start things off with the standard 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine and the core Ford Escape design. ST-Line models introduce a more aggressive appearance with unique exterior detailing and interior accents, while ST-Line Select and ST-Line Elite add more equipment and expand access to hybrid powertrains. Platinum models take a more upscale approach with upgraded materials and additional standard features. The Plug-in Hybrid model sits alongside the rest of the lineup with its own drivetrain and front-wheel-drive layout. The lineup isn’t complicated once you break it down, but it gives buyers more flexibility than most vehicles in this class.

Performance
The 2026 Ford Escape has no fewer than four powertrains. The standard 1.5-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder produces 180 horsepower and 199 lb.-ft. of torque and is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A 2.0-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder produces 250 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque and comes with all-wheel drive. The hybrid uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder combined with an electric motor to produce 192 horsepower and is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid uses the same 2.5-litre engine and electric motor, also producing 192 horsepower, but adds a larger battery and front-wheel drive only. It can travel approximately 60 km on electric power before switching to hybrid mode. The petrol engines use an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid and plug-in hybrid use an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.
Features & Technology
The 2026 Ford Escape seats five and features a sliding second row that lets you adjust legroom or cargo space by moving it forward or back. Cargo capacity measures 1,062 litres behind the rear seats and 1,852 litres with the seats folded. The dashboard features either an 8-inch or 13.2-inch touchscreen running the SYNC system, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included. A digital instrument display is fitted on higher trims. Driver-assistance features include Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System, and Post-Collision Braking. Available features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centring, as well as a 360-degree camera system. Physical controls are retained for key functions, so the layout doesn’t rely entirely on the screen.
